Above anything else, Chelsea are said to be prioritising signing an experienced goalkeeper during the summer window.
Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Arsenal benchwarmer Aaron Ramsdale have been identified as the Blues’ top two targets sources have told Football Insider.
Signing Pickford will redoubtable be the more complicated operation considering Everton’s Premier League survival this season and him being club captain.
Ramsdale is expected to find a way out of Arsenal when David Raya’s loan deal is made permanent in the summer. The Brentford loanee was installed as first choice ahead of Ramsdale at the start of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have an in-form goalkeeper in Dorde Petrovic holding the fort. The young Serb has replaced the injured Robert Sanchez since December and has kept five clean sheets in 32 league games since.
Besides the aforementioned duo, the Blues have Kepa Arrizabalaga returning from his loan spell at Real Madrid. But the Spaniard is not counted after being relegated to the Madrid bench following some underwhelming performances in January.
Chelsea’s biggest worry is not violating the Premier League’s financial sustainability rules (PSR) with the Blues also in need of a proven goalscorer in the summer who wouldn’t come cheap.
Everton and Nottingham Forest were docked points this season after violating PSR and Chelsea are already under the microscope.
