But Chelsea fan nicknamed OohTamTammy joked about how the Blues could end up in Europe’s most prestigious competition.
“Mathematically we can still get into the Champions League. We just need Aston Villa to commit gross financial fraud,” wrote OohTamTammy.
Aston Villa recorded a loss of £120 million, £15 million more than allowed under the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. However, punishment is highly unlikely because the overspending was controlled by the league and went toward infrastructure projects and the women’s team, and all expenses are deductible by rule.
