Brighton have announced that Roberto De Zerbi is leaving his role as head coach after the end of this season.
Despite a dip in results this season, De Zerbi is rated positively across Europe, with several top clubs linked with him in previous months.
One of them was Chelsea who are still to confirm if Mauricio Pochettino will be retained for the next campaign.
So, it was no surprise to see De Zerbi’s name trending among Chelsea fans on social media — and the reactions have been mixed.
Alex Goldberg: “Anyone have De Zerbi/Chelsea conspiracy theories knocking around in their head right now? I’m on record saying I’d prefer to keep Poch over hiring RDZ… and surely Poch is staying… but I’m still slightly suspicious here…”
Chelsea Dodgers: “Would you want Roberto De Zerbi at Chelsea? Personally, I wouldn’t. I’d rather continue on the ‘Poch journey’ then evaluate next summer when the manager market is better.”
Pys: “If Chelsea want to make a change, then the only man on the market I would do that for is Roberto De Zerbi. His style of play suits our squad very well, has worked with both Winstanley & Jewell, and has Caicedo, Mudryk and Colwill already in the squad, allowing a good transition. If De Zerbi was not to be on the list, then I would keep Mauricio Pochettino for 24/25.”
