Bola Tinubu, the ex-governor of Lagos State and the current President of Nigeria, has proposed a captivating idea of replacing Nigeria’s national anthem “Arise O Compatriots” with the uplifting anthem “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”
President Tinubu has approved the transition from the current national anthem, “Arise O Compatriots,” back to its previous version, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”
Senate President Godswill Akpabio revealed the news during a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday.
Godswill Akpabio has declared that the main purpose of this occasion is to introduce the new national anthem. He clarified that the President will not deliver a speech as he needs to depart to officially open the Abuja metro line.

The Senate share the green light to the “National Anthem Bill, 2024” last Tuesday, after it had already been passed by the House of Representatives.
This move signified a shift in Nigeria’s national anthem from the original “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” adopted in 1960, to “Arise O’ Compatriots” in 1978.
