Anna Sacoolas who is a retired C.I.A. officer and was working as intelligence analyst for the U.S. State Department at a U.S. intelligence facility in Northamptonshire England more commonly known as RAF Croughton. Has told a British inquest into the death of the victim, 19-year-old Harry Dunn, she was driving like an American. But this is just the latest slap in the face to Harry Dunn’s family.
On a summer’s afternoon, in August 2019, Sacoolas decided to leave the U.S. intelligence base and head into the nearby town, but as she drove away from the main gate, she was on the wrong side of the road. As Sacoolas exited the camp and entered the main road, 19-year-old Harry Dunn who was a British man, was riding his motorbike on the correct side of the road along the B4031 and heading towards RAF Croughton. Within seconds of leaving the U.S. base, the Volvo Sacoolas was driving collided with Harry’s motorbike, causing him to flip over the car and skid along the road.
What was to follow was comparable to a badly written spy novel, as not only would Sacoolas flee Britian under the guise of diplomatic immunity, when she was not supposed to, as British law enforcement had obtained an order stating she was not protected by diplomatic immunity, for killing Mr. Dunn. Both the Trump and Biden administrations have protected Sacoolas from British justice, by denying countless extradition request.
It would also later emerge, that a ‘sweetheart deal’ was worked out between British and American diplomats, so that Sacoolas would not spend any time in jail for her crime, which under British law she should have been sent to prison for up to 14-years, for death by dangerous driving, due to her prior driving convictions. Instead, she was given an 8 month suspended sentence for 5 years.
This was the tip of a much bigger iceberg, though, as the British judge presiding over the case even requested that she returns to the Britian to face the court, but again, British and American diplomats worked out a deal so that she could appear via video link from the U.S. This meant that while the people in the court room could see her, she was not able to see the look on Harry Dunn’s mothers face, as she had to sit and listen to how her son was killed.
Now, a British inquest, who also ordered Sacoolas to attend in person, but she did not. Was told via a letter from Sacoolas, that she was driving like an American, at the time of the incident. Harry Dunn’s family have told the media that this is just another insult to their family, from both the British and American governments, who seem to have gone out of their way to protect Sacoolas, for unknown reasons.
