“To be part of the England team out in Germany is mad,” Cole Palmer told the official Chelsea app ahead of the Three Lions’ opening Euro 2024 game against Serbia.

“Looking back on this time last year, I was sat on the bench. Now I get the chance to help my country.

“To score against Bosnia last week was special. I was worried I had double-hit the penalty! But to get my first goal was a good feeling and my family were in the crowd too.

“I really think we can win the Euros. We have an amazing team with some of the best players in the world. I think we have a good chance.”

England are traditionally viewed among the frontrunners for any international competition. However, they’ve never won the Euros and only lifted the World Cup once.

Still, this year’s side is so strong — at least on paper — that Palmer is an unlikely starter even after the breakout season he had with Chelsea.
