  1. Blogging ✍
The more niche, the better. Pick an area you are passionate about and start sharing your thoughts. How do you monetize? Ads, affiliate links, paid articles, etc. I have been paid before in this area before for blogs and articles for organizations.
  2. Mobile Apps 📲
More people access the internet using their phones. This has given rise to demand for apps and the skill to create them.
Most people charge around K500,000 – K1,000,000+ (Many freelancers start around $1,000) for apps based on skill level and app complexity.
  3. Web Designing 💻
Got some tech skills? Most businesses that market online also want a professional looking website. Thats where you come in.
I charged K150, 000 for the first website I designed ages ago. I don’t do that anymore. This field is tricky because so many templates are available. If you can custom code or specialize or combine with Digital Marketing, you can charge better. One client of mine spent 1million kwacha (approx $500,000) on a custom website. I thought it was a bit much but hey the agency sold themselves well and the client had deep pockets.
  4. Graphics 🍥
Do you have an eye for design and the tech savvy to match? Graphics design is something you can do in your pajamas.
Yes I have done graphics before as part of Social Media Marketing services. Can range from K20($10) all the way to a million. Did you see that logo they paid 1million for? There you go.
  5. Create and Sell Courses Online 👩‍🏫
Do you know a particular field or thing so well that you can teach others? Look into course creation. I have been selling courses since 2020. Made K100,000 from my first one.
  6. Digital/Social Media Consultant 📢
Help businesses to find customers using Social Media. Its an art and skill. It also takes time. If you have these, you will have customers.
I have had clients paying various amounts on this one. K150,000 on the low end. K300,000+ possible.
  7. Software Developer 💻
Can you create web and desktop apps and software? Everything is Digital driven so there is demand.
Good projects here pay K100,000 +($50,000+)
  8. Editing and Proofreading 🔡
Do you like correcting people’s grammar?Do spelling mistakes get on your nerves? Time to start getting paid for it.
Depends on where you find clients. $50 going up depending on quantity of editing work.
  9. Author 📝
Do you have an idea for a book? You can write and sell ebooks entirely online via platforms like Amazon Kindle or directly.
I have been doing this since 2016 and now working on an app for my ebooks.
People charge around $10-$25 for ebooks.
  10. Virtual Assistant 🧩
This is like being an online PA or personal secretary. If you are tech savvy, there is a lot you can do here.
The specific work you do will depend on your skill. The more skill you have, the better you can be paid. One of my favourite VAs is in SA and she charges ZAR200/hour. Approx $90/hour.
  11. Affiliate Marketer 🌍
Drive traffic to an offer and get a cut from each sales you generate.
Here you need to be mindseful of the product and the market. There are many affiliate websites…some don’t work for Africans. Shop around. Commission vary 10%-60%. Higher on Digital products like courses and software. Lower on physical goods like electronics.
  12. Ecommerce Reseller 🌑
Buy and sell online or make so.ething from home and sell online. Your only human contact will be with the delivery guy.
You are safe. I do this with my books and have done it with clothes.
Revenue depends on item but most people are comfortable to spend under a thousand $50 online….higher amounts are possible with good marketing.
  13. SEO Consultant 📲
All websites need traffic. PPC is all well and good but can become costly. SEO racks in organic traffic when done well.
Its a high paying skill for clients who value it.
