- YOU PRAY WITH THE WRONG MOTIVE
🔴When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. ~ James 4:3
God checks your heart, not just the words you use when praying. Is your heart in the right place?
- YOU ARE HURTING YOUR SPOUSE
🔴In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered. ~ 1 Peter 3: 7
Whatever you do to your spouse, you are doing to God. Don’t be mean to your spouse then expect God to hear you out
- YOU ARE APPROACHING GOD TO PRAY BEFORE MAKING PEACE WITH YOUR SPOUSE
🔴Leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God. ~ Matthew 5: 24
How can you say you love the God you don’t see, but avoiding reconciliation with the spouse you do see?
- YOU ARE NOT PRAYING ACCORDING TO GOD’S WORD
🔴So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. ~ Isaiah 55: 12
Are things you are asking for in line with God’s Word?
- YOU PRAY THINKING YOU ARE BETTER 🔴THAN YOUR SPOUSE
The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’. “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” ~ Luke 18: 11-14
Pride is when you think you are closer to God than your spouse, or you noticing the wrongs in your spouse as you ignore your wrongs. Are you humble?
- UNFORGIVENESS
🔴And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. ~ Mark 11: 25
The grudge you are holding against your spouse is keeping you from God
- YOU ARE PRAYING FOR REVENGE
🔴Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. ~ 1 Peter 3:9
If your prayers are of you seeking revenge on your spouse or someone in your spouse’s life (a friend, or family member) you are not praying right
- YOU PRAY BUT ALSO COMPLAIN
🔴These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage. ~ Jude 1: 16
If you are the same person complaining about the marriage you are praying for, you are not pleasing God
- YOU ACT CONTRARY TO HOW YOU PRAY
🔴And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. ~ Matthew 21: 22
If after praying your actions don’t match your actions, if you pray good prayers about your marriage but still act bad to your spouse; you are canceling out your prayers
- YOU ARE PRAYING FOR A MARRIAGE YOU HAVE ALREADY GIVEN UP ON
🔴Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. ~ Matthew 11:24
If you have already given up on the marriage, why are you praying for it?
- YOU ARE NOT SORRY FOR HOW YOU MISTREAT YOUR SPOUSE
🔴Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.~ James 5:16
Showing no remorse for your wrongs keeps God from moving in your marriage
- YOU ARE FORCING GOD INTO YOUR WILL INSTEAD OF SUBMITTING TO GOD’S WILL
🔴This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. ~ 1 John 5: 14
Don’t manipulate God to do things how you want them, when you want them
- YOU ARE PRAYING BASED ON YOUR EMOTIONS
🔴And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. ~ Hebrews 11: 6
God is concerned about our emotions but not moved by them. God is moved by faith. Are your prayers reactionary or faith based?
