Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher could leave the club this summer.
The 24-year-old is yet to agree a new contract with the Blues and talks between the two sides have reached a stalemate. The England international is being pursued by Tottenham Hotspur but football insider claims he is unlikely to leave Chelsea.
It was initially reported that Chelsea were under financial pressure and needed to sell the midfielder to balance the books, but it appears they have now met the profit and sustainability requirements and can afford to keep the midfielder at the club.
Gallagher also has no interest in leaving his boyhood club, which would be a major blow to Tottenham, who were hoping to sign him.
Gallagher has established himself as a quality central midfielder in the Premier League and would be a great signing for Tottenham. The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have been linked with moves away from the London club and quality replacements are needed.
Gallagher could improve Tottenham
The Chelsea midfielder certainly fits the bill and he could fit perfectly into their style of play.
The hard-working midfielder would add defensive protection, drive and creativity to Tottenham’s midfield. Aside from his qualities as a player, his leadership qualities would also be invaluable to Tottenham.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to move on to other targets.
Spurs need to strengthen their squad if they are to challenge for major trophies next season and will also be desperate to secure Champions League qualification.
