Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has advised President William Ruto to appoint Cabinet Secretaries who prioritize the interests of Kenyans over their personal agendas.
Speaking in Elgeyo Marakwet yesterday, Gachagua praised Ruto’s decision to dissolve the previous cabinet, urging him to assemble a new team that will work harmoniously to drive the country’s progress.
“Tunaunga wewe mkono kwa ile hatua umechukua ya kuvunja baraza ya waziri uunde upya. Utafute waziri ambao watakusaidia kufanya kazi. Mawaziri ambao hawana kiburi na hawaingii mambo ya siasa. Watakuwa na wewe kukusaidia pamoja na sisi ndo tusongeshe Kenya yetu mbele,” he said.
“We assure you of our support so that you can get a good team that will create efficiency, harmony, put the people of Kenya before their personal interests,” Gachagua said.
He emphasized that the new Cabinet Secretaries should avoid engaging in politics and instead focus on helping the president fulfill his campaign promises.
Gachagua further noted that the appointed officials should address Kenyans with respect and humility.
“Because you have shown pragmatism, all that is remaining now is to put a good team in place and the rest will flow automatically.
In the decisions you have made, you have exhibited a lot of humility. As president, to say you have listened to the people of Kenya, that is great humility.
Those who will be given the opportunity, let them speak to Kenya with respect.
Let us be humble to Kenyans because they are the ones who have given us this job.”
The deputy president’s remarks come as President Ruto continues his efforts to restore trust in his administration, which included dissolving the cabinet and implementing austerity measures.
However, some Kenyans have raised concerns about the constitutionality of the Prime CS position held by Musalia Mudavadi, who was not affected by the recent purge.
