Dadaab Member of Parliament Farah Maalim has been removed from the Sarovah Whitesands Beach Resort in Mombasa Yestwrday following his controversial comments against young Kenyan protesters.
The incident comes after the MP’s remarks in a viral video sparked outrage online.
According to reports, Maalim checked into the resort on Friday.
However, Sarovah Hotels and Resorts Kenya Managing Director Jimi Kariuki announced the MP’s ejection after numerous users called out the resort for hosting him.
Kariuki stated that the resort does not, in any way, condone Maalim’s controversial remarks.
In the undated video, Maalim, speaking in the Somali dialect, said that if he were the President of Kenya, he would have “slaughtered 5,000 young protesters daily.”
The verified translation of the video revealed that the legislator was criticizing Kenyan Gen Zs for their attempt to march to State House during the recent anti-finance Bill 2024 protests.
Maalim described the protest as “an attempted coup” and said the protesters were “children of wealthy business owners, wealthy parents and kids raised on ill-gotten wealth, 80% from one tribe [who] were dropped off in downtown and told to riot and take over State House and Parliament buildings.”
Maalim has defended himself, stating that the video was edited to portray him in a negative light.
“It’s all editing, cutting and pasting, taking a word from here, another one from here and putting it together. There is a lot of nonsense there,” he said.
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Maalim to provide further clarification on his remarks.
Additionally, the Wiper party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has called for Maalim’s removal from the opposition-affiliated political outfit over the issue.
