The busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway has been paralyzed by an ongoing protest organized by boda boda operators.
The operators have blocked the Mombasa-bound lane in Mlolongo town, effectively disrupting the free flow of traffic along this vital transportation corridor.
The protests were sparked by the torching of several of the operators’ motorcycles during the anti-government demonstrations that took place on Tuesday within the town.
According to the police, five motorbikes were set on fire during the incident, enraging the boda boda community.
“They are protesting the torching of some of their colleagues’ motorbikes during Tuesday’s anti-government demos within the town,” the report states.
The blockade has caused a major traffic jam, forcing most motorists to divert to the Nairobi Expressway in an attempt to bypass the gridlock.

The boda boda operators, who rely on their motorcycles for their livelihoods, are demanding accountability and compensation for the damaged vehicles.
Their actions have effectively brought the critical transportation link between the two cities to a standstill, causing significant inconvenience to commuters and disrupting business operations that depend on the highway.
