President William Ruto has submitted a list of 11 Cabinet nominees to Parliament for vetting, but the name of former Trade and Industry CS Rebecca Miano is conspicuously absent from the list.
Ruto had earlier on July 19 nominated Miano for the position of Attorney General as part of his first batch of Cabinet appointments.
However, her name was missing from the list the President conveyed to Parliament on Tuesday.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula read the message from the President, stating that he has nominated various persons for appointment to the Offices of Cabinet Secretaries.
The nominees whose names were submitted for vetting are:
- Kithure Kindiki (Interior)
- Davis Chirchir (Roads and Transport)
- Alice Wahome (Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development)
- Eric Muriithi Muuga (Water, Sanitation and Irrigation)
- Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u (Information, Communication and the Digital Economy)
- Debra Mlongo Barasa (Health)
- Julius Migos Ogamba (Education)
- Andrew Mwihia Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development)
Wetang’ula also noted that Aden Duale has been moved from the Defense docket to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, with Soipan Tuya nominated to take over the Defense portfolio.
The Speaker said the Committee on Appointments will immediately notify the nominees and the public, commence the necessary approval hearings, and table its report in the House within 28 days, as per the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, 2011.
