Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna expressed his dissatisfaction with the nomination of four ODM party members to President William Ruto’s Cabinet.
Sifuna stated that these nominations do not represent the party’s position and called for the members to tender their resignation letters before the vetting process.
,”I expect that by the end of the day or before they go for vetting, we will receive resignations of these people from their positions in the party. This is my expectation because the law is that they cannot go into Cabinet as parties and members of political parties.” Sifuna Said
The four ODM members nominated to Ruto’s Cabinet are John Mbadi (Treasury), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy Ministry), Hassan Joho (Mining Ministry), and Wycliffe Oparanya (Ministry of Cooperatives).
Sifuna affirmed that these nominations were not presented by Raila Odinga, the ODM party leader, and noted that Odinga is a strong believer in gender equity.
Sifuna also pointed out that ODM is a diverse party, and it is unlikely that Odinga would have nominated two people from the same region.
“If Raila Odinga was asked to present names of people who are capable of turning around this country and address the issues that have been raised by Gen Z, the Raila Odinga that I know will not present four names of all men, that one I can tell you for a fact,” Sifuna said.
On Tuesday, ODM had denied reports that it was in talks with President Ruto to form a government of national unity.
