Undercover detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have apprehended a female passenger and seized a significant quantity of suspected narcotics from her possession.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, who had arrived in Kenya from Sierra Leone, was caught during security checks while attempting to board a connecting flight to Mumbai.
The DCI stated that the officers escorted the suspect to the Immigration offices, where a meticulous search of her body and luggage led to the discovery of the suspected drugs.
“Upon her arrival in Kenya, she was escorted to the Immigration offices where her luggage was picked up from the baggage hall and was taken to the anti-narcotics office.
After a meticulous search of her body and luggage, the detectives recovered suspected narcotic drugs hidden in various places,” the DCI said.
The DCI further revealed that the seized substances, which included a whitish substance wrapped in clear tape hidden in the suspect’s inner garments, as well as two slabs of soap concealing a powdery substance in her luggage, were confirmed to be cocaine after laboratory testing.
In a separate incident, the DCI also reported the arrest of a suspected bhang peddler following a tip-off from a passenger bus company manager operating on the Malaba-Nairobi route.
The DCI stated that the manager alerted the authorities after noticing the passenger’s suspicious behavior.
“Inside the parcel, officers discovered 19 large stones of suspected narcotics wrapped in yellow cello tape. Further investigation revealed that these stones contained cannabis sativa weighing 19,810 grams and with an estimated street value of Sh990,500,” the DCI said.
Both suspects have been processed for arraignment, the DCI added.
