ODM leader Raila Odinga has expressed confidence that President William Ruto’s new broad-based government will live up to the expectations of Kenyans.
Odinga stated that his party has provided the President with experts who will help him deliver on his pledges.
“We have given him experts, you will now see things changing,” Raila told a gathering at Toi Market in Nairobi on Monday evening.
He said the President had asked to be given people who will assist him in delivering his promises to the people.
Odinga’s remarks come after Ruto nominated four members of the ODM party to his Cabinet, including two deputy party leaders, the national chairman, and the National Assembly minority leader.
This move has been seen as a gesture towards a government of national unity, a commitment Ruto has reaffirmed.
Addressing the recent youth-led protests, Odinga said the issues raised, such as the high cost of living, lack of job opportunities, rampant corruption, and negative ethnicity in government, were the same concerns that had led the Opposition to take to the streets last year.
He insisted that these issues must be addressed.
President Ruto has acknowledged that the protests were a wake-up call and an opportunity to start afresh by forming a government that reflects the diversity of the country.
He has urged his critics and all Kenyans to embrace his idea of a government of national unity, stating that it is necessary to go that route.
