The businessman from Nigeria, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, began 2024 on a negative note when he lost the title of Africa’s Richest Man to Johann Rupert, a business entrepreneur from South Africa.
Dangote lost his place upon his fortune decreasing from $13.5 billion in 2023 to $9.5 billion at the start of 2024, according to a recent Forbes Magazine list.
Johann Rupert & Family wealth decreased from $10.7 billion to $10.3 billion in the 2024 rankings.
According to the financial magazine’s billionaire rankings, Nigerian billionaires Rabiu Abdulsamad and Mike Adenuga have also fallen out of the top places.
Significant drops in the billionaires club’s wealth were shown by analyzing the Forbes list.
Mike Adenuga of Nigeria rose to the tenth place due to his fortune, and Patrice Motsepe, who was among the top ten in 2023, was not among the top ten richest men in 2024.
The absence of any female in the top ten richest list at the beginning of the year is a notable shift in Forbes’ list of the wealthiest individuals in Africa.
The economic difficulties facing the continent are not unrelated to the decrease in these people’s wealth.
The decline in Dangote’s fortune might be linked to the depreciation of the Naira as well as other economic problems.
