German coach Bruno Labbadia has opted against taking the position as Nigeria’s Super Eagles coach.
Sources reveal that discussions with the Nigerian Football Federation did not reach a satisfactory conclusion, prompting Labbadia to decline the position.
In a significant development reported on Friday, August 30, 2024, Daily Post has confirmed that the 58-year-old has opted out of the chance to manage Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
This decision comes after discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) failed to yield a contract.
Recall that days earlier, on August 27, 2024, the NFF announced via its official X account that Bruno Labbadia has been named the new head coach of the national team.
However, the German international Bruno Labbadia was expected to lead the Super Eagles as they gear up for the qualifying rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where they will be competing against the teams from Benin Republic and Rwanda.
In a fresh update shared on the official NFF account on X,on Friday 30th of August, it has been revealed that Austin Eguavoen, the technical director, will lead the team in the next two matches.
it is worth noting that Eguavoen, who previously guided the Super Eagles during the AFCON 2021 tournament, experienced an early departure from the competition when the team was eliminated by Tunisia in the knockout round.
