Former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo has weighed in on the criticism directed at embattled Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen was at the centre of a protracted transfer saga involving Napoli, Chelsea and Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli.

The out-of-favour striker was expected to leave Napoli this summer but a deal could not materialise until the close of the transfer window.

However, the reigning African Footballer of the Year has been excluded from the club’s squad list with his jersey number nine reportedly being handed to new arrival Romelu Lukaku.

In an X post on Sunday, Ighalo lamented that Osimhen was being unjustly criticised over his failed transfer.

“No human being is perfect and we have all made mistakes in life, but seeing comments about this young man from his own country people makes me really sad, without even knowing what happened.

“I spoke to him and I can feel the pain in his voice, the way he’s been treated.

“This young man play(s) with heart and pains for his country. Hmmm it’s well, he will definitely be back stronger. We learn everyday in life,” Ighalo stated.
