Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has sharply criticized State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed for disputing claims regarding a meeting between some ODM members and President William Ruto.
In a response to Mohamed’s statement posted on X, Sifuna, who is also a senator representing Nairobi County, accused him of dishonesty.
Hussein Mohamed had denied reports that indicated President Ruto met with a faction of ODM members at State House, Nairobi.
He also dismissed suggestions that certain ODM members had chosen to boycott this purported meeting.
Contrary to Hussein’s assertions, Sifuna, who reportedly did not attend the State House gathering, expressed a different viewpoint. “You are lying Omwami,” he stated in response to the Spokesperson’s claims.
Earlier on the same day, a local daily reported that some ODM MPs from Nairobi had been invited to a meeting at the State House but failed to attend.
In his rebuttal, Hussein labeled the reports as “misleading, mischievous, and baseless.”
“We have taken note of the splash story in the ‘Daily Nation’ today, Wednesday, September 11, 2024, titled ‘Why Raila MPs skipped Ruto meeting.’ The story is not only misleading but also mischievous and baseless,” he declared.
He elaborated that President Ruto had been accompanied by several Nairobi MPs during a visit to Kibera on Monday, September 9, 2024, where he oversaw the Kibera Soweto East Zone B Affordable Housing Project.
According to Hussein, the attending MPs then joined the President for an informal lunch at State House.
He further emphasized that any official communication or invitations to MPs or other individuals are conducted through established channels.
“For ‘Daily Nation’ to base its story on a source outside these official channels is both misleading and irresponsible,” Hussein asserted.
