The Taifa Stars of Tanzania have secured a spot in the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco with a 1-0 victory over Guinea.
In a Group H match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Simon Msuva scored the decisive goal in the 61st minutes, following a brilliant assist for Mudathir Yahya
The win places Taifa Stars second in the group standing with 10 points from 6 matches, behind DR Congo, who top the group with 12 points.
Syl National of Guinea finished finished third with 9 points, why Ethiopia ended at the bottom with one point.
The East Africans collected six points against their West African brothers, having also won their first confrontation 2-1 in Cote D’Ivoire where the Guineans play their home matches.
This is the fourth time Tanzania are reaching the finals of the prestigious continental football show piece after making their maiden appearance in Nigeria in 1980.
They were also in attendance at the 2019 edition in Egypt as well as the last event in 2023 in the cocoa rich nation of Cote D’Ivoire, were they left at the group stage.
This is the first time the Taifa Stars are qualifying under Tanzanian coach Hemed Suleiman.
In 2019, they were coached by Emmanuel Amunike and in 2023 they were managed by Algeria’s Adel Amrouche. Their first qualification in 1980 was under the stewardship of Slawomir Wolk of Poland.
