In a recent ruling, Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Lagos has thrown out a fundamental rights lawsuit brought forth by Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, widely recognized as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The court’s decision marks a significant moment in the ongoing legal battles faced by the social media personality.

Bobrisky had sought a staggering N200 million in damages from the EFCC, claiming to have suffered “psychotic trauma,” while also demanding N1 billion from the National Assembly for allegedly infringing upon his right to a fair hearing.

Additionally, he requested the court to issue an order preventing both the EFCC and the National Assembly from “harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted,” highlighting the intense scrutiny he has faced from these institutions.

On Thursday, November 28, Justice Owoeye issued a ruling regarding the case, determining that Bobrisky’s allegations of rights violations were unfounded and not backed by reliable evidence.

The court’s decision highlighted the lack of substantial proof to support the claims made by the social media personality.

Following the judgment, Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), provided insights into the ruling through a statement released on Friday.

The statement reads; “Having evaluated the evidence placed before this Court by the Applicant, it is evident that the Applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to justify the award of the declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought by him.

“I hold that the claims of violation of fundamental rights against the 1st and 2nd Respondents were not made out of the affidavit evidence placed before this Court. The Applicant’s claims against the 1st and 2nd Respondents lack merit and are accordingly dismissed.”
