Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca praised his young team after the 3-1 victory over Astana in Kazakhstan which earned the Blues progress to the knockout stage of the UEFA Conference League.

The Italian gaffer started three players of Ghanaian descent before introducing Accra-born Ato Ampah in the second half.

The English-Ghanaian quartet impressed with Josh Acheampong, Sam Rak-Sakyi and Tyrique George contributing significantly to the victory.

“I’m also happy for the young players who helped us win the game. I was impressed by all of them. The ones who started, Tyrique [George], Sam [Rak-Sakyi] and Josh [Acheampong] all did very good. So I’m very happy for them and the ones that came on in the second half, I’m pleased,” he said after the game.

Former Barcelona youngster Marc Guiu netted a brace to add to Renato Veiga’s strike as Chelsea took an early 3-0 lead.

Just before half-time Marin Tomasov pulled one back for the hosts.
