Paris Saint-Germain’s Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi will earn a staggering €70 million in wages over his new five-year deal, cementing his status as football’s highest-paid defender.
Hakimi has signed a contract extension with the French champions until 2029, the club announced on Friday. The new deal adds three years to his previous contract, which was set to expire in 2026.
According to Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo, this extension makes Hakimi the highest-paid fullback in world football, with his net salary increasing from €10 million to €14 million per season (€28 million gross).
The 25-year-old defender’s new contract, announced alongside extensions for Portuguese internationals Vitinha and Nuno Mendes, comes as part of PSG’s strategic move to secure key players’ futures.
The extension solidifies Hakimi as a linchpin of PSG, where he dons the mantle of vice-captain under coach Luis Enrique.
This season, the Moroccan defender has appeared in 16 of PSG’s 21 league matches, contributing two goals. He has also featured in all eight Champions League matches, scoring once.
“I’m very happy to continue my journey with Paris Saint-Germain. I would like to thank the President, the Sporting Director, and the coach, who have made this possible,” Hakimi said in the club’s official statement.
“This club and its supporters have something truly special. Here, I have an ideal environment to work and flourish on the pitch. It’s an honor to represent this great club, and I can’t wait to keep contributing to its history.”
The agreement had been in place for several months, with Real Madrid’s inquiry about the player during Dani Carvajal’s injury being rejected due to the pre-existing commitment between PSG and Hakimi.
The extension will keep the Atlas Lions captain at the Parc des Princes until he is nearly 30 years old.
Since joining PSG in 2021, Hakimi has accumulated an impressive record of 17 goals and 27 assists in 147 appearances.
His trophy collection with the Parisian club includes three Ligue 1 titles (2022, 2023, 2024), one Coupe de France (2024), and three Trophées des Champions (2022, 2023, 2024).
The club simultaneously announced manager Luis Enrique’s extension until 2027 and new deals for several young talents from their academy, including Yoram Zague, Ibrahim Mbaye, and Naoufel El Hannach.
