Ghana have one foot in the semifinal of the ongoing African Schools Football Championship (ASFC) girls’ category after their win over Benin.

The Black Damsels picked up a 2-0 win over their counterparts at the University of Ghana on MatchDay 2, Thursday, April 25.

Goals from Christiana Ashiaku and Belinda Kpentey did the magic for Joyce Boatey-Agyei’s side.

Having led in the first half through Ashiaku, Ghana doubled their lead after Kpentey was played clean through on goal by her teammate, making no mistake and striking the ball past the goalkeeper.

The victory, their second of the tournament, means the team progresses to the last four with a game to spare in the group stage. They will wrap up that stage later on Thursday with a match against Malawi.

Ghana opened their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Morocco and followed it up with a dominant performance against Benin, showing confidence and cohesion throughout the match.

Their qualification mirrors the success of Ghana’s U15 boys, who also secured a spot in the semi-finals after back-to-back wins.

With both teams performing impressively on home soil, Ghana is enjoying a strong showing in the competition it is hosting, underlining the country’s growing youth football potential.
