During the 17th Headies Awards, which took place on Sunday, April 27, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, Omowunmi, the widow of the late Nigerian music sensation Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, otherwise known as Mohbad, took to the stage to share an emotional tribute.
In a heartfelt tribute to his legacy, Mohbad was awarded two prestigious accolades posthumously: the title of Best Street-Hop Artiste of the Year and the coveted Viewers’ Choice Award.
In a heartfelt tribute to her husband’s achievements, Omowunmi took the stage, exuding both elegance and profound emotion.
She emphasized her determination to avoid referring to Mohbad as her ‘late husband,’ asserting that he continues to exist in her heart, particularly through their beloved son, Liam.
Her words resonated deeply, capturing the essence of love and remembrance. Omowunmi’s unwavering spirit shines through as she honors Mohbad’s legacy.
In her heartfelt reflection,she conveyed that although Liam is still too young to grasp the significant impact his father had on the world, there will inevitably come a moment when he will appreciate and honor the extraordinary legacy that Mohbad has left behind.
In her speech she said; “On behalf of myself, my son Liam, my husband’s immediate younger brother Adura, and the rest of the Imonelization family, we want to specially thank you for this award,”
“Although Mohbad isn’t here with us anymore, he lives on. I don’t like to address him as my late husband cause he lives forever, especially through our son Liam. Although he may be too young to grasp the depth of his father’s greatness, I know, and I believe that one day, he will know. Thank you so much Headies. Thank you for shining a light on my husband. Thank you for honouring his memory and legacy. It means so much to me, his son and the entire Imonelization.”
