President William Ruto has nominated former Trade Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano to become Kenya’s first-ever female Attorney General. This historic appointment comes as Miano is set to replace the outgoing seventh AG, Justin Muturi.

With over three decades in the energy sector, she previously served as the first female Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC.
She has also held the position of Cabinet Secretary for the East African Community, where she played a key role in implementing measures to promote regional development.

She founded the Pink Energy forum to address gender issues in the energy sector and has received numerous accolades, including being named Chairperson of the Year by Women on Boards in 2021 and being honored with the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) and Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear for her contributions to public service.
As the next Attorney General, Miano will be tasked with formulating legal policies and ensuring the proper administration of Kenya’s legal system. Her diverse background and expertise in both the public and private sectors make her uniquely qualified to tackle the challenges and opportunities that come with this high-profile role.
