The Minister’s revelation came after a closed-door meeting with heads of security agencies and Area Council Chairmen late Thursday evening.

Wike revealed that intelligence reports have linked a Senator to the protests, with evidence showing the lawmaker providing food for the demonstrators.

He said: “We have intelligence that the protesters are coming back with full force to destroy public properties. “We also have intelligence that a Senator is sponsoring the protesters by providing them food.”

Wike assured that security has been beefed up to prevent further violence, as credible intelligence suggests protesters plan to reinforce their numbers and target public assets.

The Minister added that the government will not tolerate lawlessness or disturbances to public peace.
