Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has claimed that Chelsea are expecting a transfer ban.

According to him, that is why the Premier League side are “stocking up” on new players.

So far, the Blues have spent £185m on 10 players, with the likes of Pedro Neto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Renato Veiga, Marc Guiu and Tosin arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Another approach to Chelsea’s transfer strategy is signing players on extremely long contracts.

Mikel Obi told beIN Sports: “The club has got a lot of players, let’s put it that way.

“The club keeps signing and signing players but I think there is a strategy behind that.

“There is a strategy to that… I think there is a transfer ban coming and that is why we are stocking up on all these players to make sure that if there is a transfer ban eventually we will have enough players to go on for the next two or three seasons.”
