Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has called on Kenyans to visit their local Huduma Centers to collect important documents that remain unclaimed.
He highlighted that approximately 180,000 identity cards, 47,000 driving licenses, and 54,000 birth certificates are waiting for their owners across various centers nationwide.
“We, therefore, urge Kenyans to visit their Huduma Center and collect the documents they applied for,” he stated.
Muturi also announced plans to establish 290 sub-county Huduma Centers, noting that six centers in Tharaka Nithi, Kajiado, Kiambu, and Laikipia are already operational.
“To embody the One-Stop-Shop concept, I urge all ministries, departments, agencies, and counties to deploy services across the Huduma Centers to ensure equitable and seamless service delivery to citizens,” he added.
He encouraged those ministries and agencies lacking staff to utilize the Huduma Kenya Universal Agent, which will be trained to provide various government services on their behalf.
The CS pointed out that despite the presence of Huduma centers, many Kenyans still face challenges accessing certain government services, often having to travel significant distances.
“This is occasioned by partial or non-deployment of these services in all Huduma Centres. For instance, out of the 57 Huduma Centers, the National Transport and Safety Authority services are offered in only 15 Huduma centres. Some citizens have to travel more than 200 kilometres to renew their driver’s licenses or apply for new ones,” he explained.
During Customer Week, Muturi emphasized the importance of service excellence, celebrating the theme “Above and Beyond.” He expressed the commitment of public servants to exceed expectations in their service delivery.
“Our role is not just to meet expectations but to exceed them, ensuring that every interaction with our citizens is marked with compassion, courtesy, respect, and efficiency, leaving an unforgettable experience for our customers,” he said.
Muturi made these remarks during his visit to the Huduma Kenya Secretariat offices in Nairobi.
