The Gombe State Government has successfully negotiated an agreement with the local chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), bringing an end to weeks of strike action that stemmed from various demands put forth by the union.

On September 11, 2024, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the state university announced a total and indefinite strike, effectively suspending all academic activities across the institution. This decision marked a significant disruption in the academic calendar, leaving students and faculty in a state of uncertainty.

In a turn of events, a series of discussions with the state government led to a breakthrough, culminating in the approval of N947 million during an executive council meeting chaired by Governor Inuwa Yahaya on Thursday. This funding is earmarked to address staff promotions and settle outstanding earned academic allowances, providing a glimmer of hope for the resumption of normalcy in the academic environment.

In light of recent advancements aimed at addressing the ongoing situation, academic operations are poised to recommence within a matter of days. The university has already initiated all necessary preparations to facilitate a smooth reopening.

As the resolution of the issue progresses, the return to academic life is just around the corner. The institution has activated all essential processes to ensure that the university can welcome back students and staff without delay.

In a recent address, Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau conveyed optimism on behalf of the Governor regarding the newly established truce. He emphasized that the formal agreement signed by both parties is expected to enhance collaboration, paving the way for a seamless educational experience at the state-owned university.
