President William Ruto may implement significant alterations to his Cabinet if the court upholds the impeachment of his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

Sources suggest that the President is contemplating a major reorganization aimed at fostering a more inclusive government during a crucial period for the country.

Insiders told Juniitvonline that these planned changes are expected to reflect Ruto’s willingness to collaborate with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The anticipated shuffle will likely impact several Principal Secretary positions, as Ruto aims to remove associates of Gachagua, who is currently contesting his impeachment in court.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki was nominated by Parliament to succeed Gachagua, who was impeached by MPs.

However, Kindiki’s swearing-in as Deputy President is on hold pending the outcome of Gachagua’s legal challenge.

Once Kindiki is officially sworn in, Ruto is poised to make sweeping changes to the Cabinet, which would exclude Gachagua’s supporters and create opportunities for more allies of Raila and Ruto to join the administration.

“The changes have been delayed because of the court cases but once that is cleared and Kindiki assumes office, there will be radical Cabinet changes,” said a senior UDA leader familiar with the developments.

With Kindiki’s potential departure from the Interior Ministry, there will be two vacant Cabinet positions, including the Gender docket, which saw its nominee, Stella Soi Langat, rejected by the National Assembly.

Raila’s faction is reportedly seeking an additional position, bringing the total to six Cabinet Secretary roles they would receive if the changes proceed as planned.

Raila’s ODM Party has already secured five CS slots, including Hassan Joho (Mining), John Mbadi (National Treasury), Wickliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), and Beatrice Askul of EAC.

ODM is anticipated to be recognized for its crucial role in stabilizing the nation following Gen Z protests and Gachagua’s impeachment.

Political analyst Alexander Nyamboga stated that changes to the Cabinet and the broader government structure are unavoidable due to the fallout between Ruto and Gachagua.

“It’s only a matter of time, not if. Looking at the stake Gachagua and his allies had in government, President Ruto would have already prepared a new-look government in the coming days,” he noted.

When the Kenya Kwanza government was established, Gachagua reportedly submitted names for appointments, which were subsequently filled in Cabinet and Principal Secretary positions.

Gachagua acknowledged that President Ruto had granted them the positions they requested and noted he had no complaints about it.
