Morocco have been selected to replac Mozambique in the upcoming 2025 FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers.
The decision came after Mozambique inform FIBA Africa that they won’t be available in the qualifiers which will take place in Dakar Senegal from November 22nd to November 24th due to current political unrest in their country.
FIBA Africa which overseas basketball in the continent selected Morocco as Mozambique replacement on the basis of their result in the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket pre-qualifier as well as their position in FIBA world ranking.
Morocco who currently ranked 18th in Africa 97th in the World came short in two games pre-qualifier series against Libya held in Monastir, Tunisia in February.
They will join South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Mali in Group A.
Morocco last featured in Afrobasket in 2017 where the finish fourth. The North African country failed to qualify for the finals in 2021 Afrobasket edition in Kigali after they finish at the bottom of Group E in the qualifiers.
