…Will deliver a historic AFCON with a proven track record, world-class facilities, and passionate football fans base
The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has given Morocco a glowing review. As the North-African country prepares to host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) from December 2025 to January 2026.
CAF commended Morocco’s success in hosting big sports events, saying Morocco will deliver an African Cup with top-class standards.
In a report shared on its website, CAF says “Choosing Morocco for AFCON 2025 was no surprise. The country has proven its ability to host major football competitions.”
Morocco hosted the CHAN in 2018, the Women’s AFCON in 2022, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2023. CAF believes this track record makes Morocco ready to host the biggest sporting events in the world.
The report added that “With modern stadiums, world-class facilities, and passionate fans, this AFCON will be unforgettable. Morocco is set to raise the bar for African football.”
AFCON 2025 will see Morocco hosting this tournament for a second time. The first was in 1988 when Morocco replaced the original host Zambia.
During that time, eight teams were split into two groups of four. The tournament final was held in Casablanca at Stade Mohamed V where Cameroon won its second championship, beating Nigeria in the final 1−0.
This time, Morocco was chosen after Guinea, the original host, after they failed to meet the CAF requirements.
AFCON 2025 will feature 24 teams who will battle out for the trophy. Matches will be played in some of Morocco’s world-class stadiums, including Casablanca’s Mohammed V Stadium and Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Cities like Marrakech, Tangier, Fes, and Agadir are also set to host the games.
Meanwhile, Morocco is investing heavily in its infrastructure to ensure everything runs smoothly. This event is expected to draw supporters from all over Africa and beyond.
The tournament will run over four weeks. But It’s not just about the matches, it’s a celebration of African and Moroccan culture, unity, and passion for the game.
