Tragedy struck the football community in Uganda as an Arsenal supporter lost his life while reveling in the excitement of the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over Manchester United on December 4.

The heartbreaking news of John Ssenyonga’s death was confirmed by BBC News on December 5, revealing that he was fatally shot by a security guard amidst the celebrations.

The incident unfolded at a bustling restaurant in Lukaya town, located approximately 100 kilometers from Kampala, where a large crowd of enthusiastic fans had gathered to celebrate.

Reports indicate that another individual sustained injuries as the guard discharged his weapon into the jubilant throng, casting a shadow over what should have been a night of joy and camaraderie among football fans.

As the final whistle blew on a triumphant 2-0 victory for Arsenal, a local journalist reported to the BBC that the exuberant celebrations of the fans had drawn the ire of the building’s manager.

Frustrated by the raucous atmosphere, the manager requested that security step in to address the noise levels.

Despite the intervention, the jubilant supporters remained undeterred, continuing their spirited revelry.

The local journalist conveyed to the BBC that the fans chose to ignore the request for a more subdued celebration, highlighting the passionate nature of the Arsenal faithful in the wake of their team’s success.

However some Witnesses told the journalist, Farish Magembe, that the owner switched off the power in the restaurant, angering the fans, who responded by making even more noise.

“It was then that the guard allegedly opened fire, firing several shots. The victim, identified as 30-year-old John Ssenyonga, d!ed at the scene.

A dedicated Arsenal supporter, Lawrence Mugejera, was admitted to the hospital for medical care.

The report indicates that following the incident, both the building’s guard and manager sought refuge and have since gone missing, prompting a police search for their whereabouts.

Twaha Kasirye, a spokesperson for the regional police, was cited by the Daily Monitor, revealing that authorities have found a firearm at the location of the event.

“We condemn the incident and we ask anyone with information that can help the police to bring the suspect to book to speak up,” Kasirye encouraged fans to manage their enthusiasm as well.
