Marc Cucurella, one of the team’s leaders in recent months, made a sensational statement in which he spoke about his difficult relationship with head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
“Pochettino wanted to sell me in the summer,” the Spaniard admitted in an interview with esRadio Sevilla . “The club has already found options, but I decided to stay. I wanted to prove that I could play at a high level at Chelsea and I was right, even though I spent a lot of time in the hospital.”
Now Cucurella is shining on the pitch, helping Chelsea finish in the Europa League zone. He receives flattering press and words of support from fans. However, the resentment towards Pochettino for wanting to sell him has not gone away.
“I was angry with him,” Cucurella admitted. “I didn’t understand why he didn’t believe in me. But over time, I realized that it was an educational lesson. Pochettino made me stronger. Now I can call him “my coach” without any problems. We both understand where the team is going.”
The Spaniard is confident that next season Chelsea will make every effort to return to the Champions League and compete for the championship title.
“We have everything for this,” Cucurella said. “We will play with even greater zeal and prove that Chelsea are a force!”
