Lugari Member of Parliament, Nabii Nabwera, has called on opposition leader Raila Odinga to retire and allow the younger generation to lead the ongoing political revolution.

Speaking in Kakamega during the burial ceremony of Henry Ongoma, the brother of former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, on Saturday, Nabwera urged Raila not to disrupt the progress made by the youth.

“Baba nimekutii siku zote, ata ukaniambia huu mswada ni mbaya, nipinge ‘No’ vile ulivyotaka. Lakini baba leo ii, Gen Zs wamepigania nchi. Nakuomba baba, wacha Gen Zs wafunge mpira, please let the revolution be complete,” Nabwera stated.

The legislator’s remarks come ahead of the upcoming six-day multi-sectorial forum organized by President William Ruto.

The forum according to the Head of State aims to foster national dialogue following recent anti-government protests.

Nabwera has also excused himself from attending the forum.

“Mimi nakimbia kuzika watoto watatu, mmoja aliuliwa Nairobi na Koome na Ruto, mwingine akauliwa Nakuru, uyo ndo mtu mnataka Nabii Nabwera akae naye kwa meza, nyinyi endeni baba you will allow me, nikae kwangu Lugari,” Nabwera declared

The forum is set to begin on Monday, July 15, 2024.

President Ruto said the forum is important as it will propose the way forward for the country in these challenging times.

He called on representatives to submit their recommendations ahead of the forum.

“This forum will begin on Monday, next week and end on Saturday next week, it will be a 6-day forum and will propose the way forward for the country,” Ruto said

President Ruto first proposed the forum on June 29, 2024, to help address the ongoing protests.

In a meeting at the State House in Nairobi with 96 bishops, the Head of State called on the clergy to support this initiative to end the nationwide demonstrations.

“The proposed youth and multi-sectoral forum will give the youth and other stakeholders a platform to discuss these and other national economic challenges that face our country,” Ruto stated.
