Asisat Oshoala responded to Nigeria’s defeat against Spain, acknowledging that the Super Falcons now face an uphill battle to advance to the knockout stage of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Bay FC forward played a key role in the match against the reigning world champions and had opportunities to score during the intense game.
Spain managed to score the winning goal through a free-kick by Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas, securing a crucial victory.
The Nigerian Women entered the match following a 1-0 defeat against Brazil in their first game, fully aware that anything less than a win could jeopardize their advancement to the next stage.
Asisat Oshoala, the talented Super Falcons striker, has emphasized that Nigeria put up a strong performance, even though they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Spain in their second group match at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Spain, the current titleholders, dominated most of the game, but the Super Falcons also had their chances to cause an upset.
As per Euro Sport, Spain were the clear favorites to win, and Alexia Putellas scored the winning goal with a free-kick in the 85th minute.
The Barcelona Femeni forward’s shot found the back of the Nigerian net, securing a 1-0 victory.

“All I can say is that I’m proud of the team performance. I think we played good. We played against the world champions and we had our chances.
“We had opportunities to score Spain. I think the same thing happened to us in the first game. We were not clinical”.
Looking ahead, Nigeria is set to face Japan in their final group match. Oshoala remains optimistic about the Falcons’ chances of advancing to the next stage.
“We have to go all out against Japan. We have to go all out and give our everything and make the best out of it because we still have the opportunity to qualify.”
