Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has asserted that the Mt. Kenya region will need its own political party in the lead-up to the 2027 elections in order to effectively fight for its interests.

Ngunjiri claimed that the region entered the Kenya Kwanza coalition without a written agreement, putting it at a disadvantage.

“Mt Kenya supported the Kenya Kwanza coalition overwhelmingly but our loyalty has not paid benefits because we did not have a strong party,” Ngunjiri said while speaking at the Riandegwa ACK church in Kandara.

The former MP stated that the votes-rich region should unite and devise ways to propel it forward past the next elections, regardless of who runs for the top seat.

He suggested that the region should “all sit and negotiate and then whoever we decide to vote for, let’s vote for them as a block.”

Ngunjiri further argued that disunity has continuously hindered the region’s efforts to advocate for the “One Man One Vote One Shilling” system of resource allocation, which would see more funds allocated to the populous region.

“Other people that we were fighting for Ruto during campaigns are now in government. What’s the use of staying loyal? Having one strong party can only work if there’s absolute transparency,” he added.

The former MP also appealed to the president to control some of his “foot soldiers” who have been attacking Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and plotting his ouster, stating that Gachagua, being the topmost leader in the region, enjoys a lot of support from residents and should therefore be accorded the necessary respect.
