The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of 11 key roads on Lagos Island and Victoria Island as part of the preparations for the highly anticipated Lagos Women Run, set to take place on Saturday, October 9.

This initiative aims to facilitate a smooth and enjoyable experience for participants and spectators alike.

In a statement issued on Thursday, November 7, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, detailed the extensive traffic diversion strategy that has been developed. This plan is designed to minimize disruptions for motorists while ensuring that the annual event proceeds without a hitch, highlighting the government’s commitment to both safety and community engagement.

He stated that “During the event, the race route, starting from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) inwards Water Board, Old NITEL, Outer Marina, Bonny Camp Bridge, Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola Street, Falomo Bridge, Falomo Roundabout, Awolowo Road, and Onikan Roundabout to Mobolaji Johnson, would be partially closed,”

In light of recent developments, Osiyemi has outlined new alternative routes aimed at alleviating traffic congestion for commuters.

He recommended that drivers traveling to the Third Mainland Bridge from Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue should consider taking the Bonny Camp route.

This path leads through the Onikan Underpass, ultimately guiding them to the Marina Exit, where they can access Force Road. This route connects to Outer Marina and the Third Mainland Bridge, facilitating smoother travel to their intended destinations.

He however stated that “Motorists heading to Ikoyi Road from Apongbon are to use Odunlami Street to connect Igbosere Road and continue to Moloney Street to access Ikoyi Road for their journeys. There was minimal impact on traffic flow within these routes,”

The Commissioner emphasized that every junction and intersection along the route from Tafawa Balewa Square to Mobolaji Johnson Arena will be secured with barriers and personnel. This coordinated effort, involving LASTMA, NPF, FRSC, and LSNC officials, aims to restrict access for other road users to the primary race corridor, ensuring a smoother experience for both motorists and athletes alike.

In a bid to enhance safety and streamline traffic flow, the Commissioner announced that barriers and staff will be deployed at all key junctions and intersections from Tafawa Balewa Square to the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

This initiative, supported by LASTMA, NPF, FRSC, and LSNC officials, is designed to keep the main race corridor clear, thereby reducing disruptions for both competitors and drivers during the event.

“Motorists are implored to be patient, as the partial road closure is part of the traffic management plans for the race event highlighted,”
